We were called in to this home in Gravesend as the client was having other parts of the house upgraded. With trades already on site, it made sense to tackle the staircase at the same time. The old ranch-style balustrade had years of paint on it and was ready for an update.

Out came the old newel posts and rails. We fitted oak newel posts and handrails with straight round black metal spindles, continuing the same combination up the stairs and around the landing. The slim spindles give a clear view through the balustrade, and the oak brings some warmth to the space.

The oak was finished with Osmo to match the client’s oak furniture. It’s a detail that helps the whole job sit comfortably in the house, carrying the timber colour through into the staircase. Simple lines, visible oak grain and a finish chosen to suit what was already there.
