This project has to be one of my favourites so far, showcasing modern staircase design tailored for a stunning new build in Bromley. It involved installing two brand-new staircases from the ground floor to the second floor. The main staircase was the real showstopper, featuring American Black Walnut treads paired with matching handrails, complemented by sleek 16mm black, metal, straight spindles.

As this was a new build staircase, it was a blank canvas—perfect for working my magic on a modern staircase design that complemented the home.—perfect for working my magic. Fitting the staircases was fairly straightforward. With them being straight flights, it was simply a matter of hooking them into place and securing them to the wall. Once that was done, it was time to fit the newel posts, handrails, baserails, nosings, and aprons—this is where the staircase really started to take shape.

Now, here’s where things got a bit more challenging. Because the spindles were round, the handrails and baserails couldn’t be grooved to accommodate them. Instead, I had to carefully mark out each spindle position on the baserail, then use a laser level to align and mark the corresponding holes on the handrail.

After that, I drilled every single hole in both the handrail and baserail, then cut all the spindles to size using a grinder before fitting them. It was certainly labour-intensive, but the end result made it all worthwhile.

The finished staircase is stunning—its modern staircase design enhances the aesthetic of this Bromley new build while serving as a striking centrepiece.—its modern, minimalist design creates a striking yet elegant centrepiece for the space. It’s a true testament to how careful craftsmanship and attention to detail can transform a staircase into so much more than just a functional feature.
